Angels annoyed Scioscia-Dipoto rift was leaked: 'You keep your mouth shut, you keep it in here'

The animosity in the Los Angeles Angels' clubhouse continues to grow.

Following a report by Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports on Monday that detailed a rift between manager Mike Scioscia and general manager Jerry Dipoto, several players chimed in on their distaste for whoever allowed the news to leave the organization.

"Whoever leaked that story, it's really embarrassing," Angels first baseman Albert Pujols told Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com. "We're supposed to be family in here."

Reliever Joe Smith offered the same sentiment as Pujols.

"You have a bunch of men filled with testosterone in one little room, and we're with each other every day and we're all trying to do something," Smith said. "Stuff happens, and I think it’s better when it's kept in-house.

"Because it does happen; it happens every year in every clubhouse. You keep your mouth shut, you keep it in here, and you move on, with everybody performing in the right direction."

Rosenthal noted that Dipoto feels as if the coaching staff relies too much on "feel" rather than data obtained, and does not relay the information received to the players.

Dipoto failed to comment, while Scioscia opted to not acknowledge any split between the two.

"There's really nothing to say about anything that might or might not have happened," Scioscia said. "Jerry and I work together the same way we've worked the last couple of years, and that's where we are."

Both parties were able to work through their issues following the 2012 season thanks in large part from the help of owner Arte Moreno, though one club official told Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports the belief is the current rift has reached the point of no return.

"Something's going to give this time. Looks irreparable," the club official said.

The Angels entered play Tuesday four games back of the division-leading Houston Astros.
