Report: Wesley Matthews drawing interest from Mavericks, Raptors
Wesley Matthews has two goals this summer: get healthy and get paid. He's well on his way to reaching both.
Matthews, an unrestricted free agent, is reportedly ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn Achilles, and is drawing interest from the Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.
Matthews, who averaged 15.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 60 games last season with the Portland Trail Blazers, is looking for a substantial raise from the $7.2 million he made in 2014-15. He's reportedly looking for upwards of $15 million a season, an increased role, and a long-term deal.
Matthews will be 29 in mid-October and has spent the last five years of his six-year career in Rip City, where he became a fan favorite.
A prolific 3-point shooter, Matthews would replace Monta Ellis in Dallas, after Ellis opted out of his contract and became a free agent, ending his time with the Mavericks.
The Raptors, meanwhile, are seemingly always looking for help on the wing, and have already been linked with Matthews' teammate in Portland, LaMarcus Aldridge, who they'll meet with Wednesday.
Here's video proof of Matthews on the mend:
