Bumgarner becomes youngest Giants pitcher to record 1,000 strikeouts, celebrates with homer
Madison Bumgarner is the newest member of the 1,000-strikeout club.
The San Francisco Giants left-hander sat down Colorado Rockies outfielder Brandon Barnes in the second inning of Sunday's contest to reach the milestone, and become the youngest hurler in club history to accomplish the feat at 25 years and 331 days old.
Bumgarner's teammate, Matt Cain, held the previous record after racking up 1,000 strikeouts at 26 years and 272 days old.
The 2014 World Series MVP is also the 13th Giants pitcher to reach the milestone and only the third southpaw, joining Carl Hubbell and Mike McCormick.
Bumgarner, who is highly regarded for his skills with the stick, also launched his eighth career home run - a solo blast - in the seventh inning.
