Mainz ready to offload Jara after incident with Cavani: 'We do not tolerate that'

Gonzalo Jara's interesting choice of finger placement may have been instrumental in helping Chile advance to the semifinals of the Copa America, but it seems to have also cost him his job with his club team.

Mainz sports director Christian Heidel told German newspaper Bild the club is prepared to let the defender leave after witnessing his now famous incident in Chile's quarterfinal match with Uruguay, which saw the 29-year-old prod his fingers into Edinson Cavani's backside before theatrically flopping to the floor after the striker reacted with a slight tap to the chin.

Cavani was shown a second yellow card for his reaction, and the Copa America hosts went on to claim a 1-0 win.

"He knows that if an offer comes he can go," Heidel said, as translated by The Guardian. "We do not tolerate that. More than the prod, however, it is what comes afterwards that makes me angry. I hate theatrics more than anything."
