Overview

Passed over in last year's draft, Aho entered this year's selection process with a year of Swedish pro hockey under his belt and as the 13th-ranked European skater.

Aho rose back into the draft conversation with a strong showing for Sweden at the 2015 World Junior Championship, where he recorded a goal and three assists in seven games.

Listed at 5-foot-9, Aho models his game after Drew Doughty of the Los Angeles Kings, and has developed a strong two-way game that belies his stature.

What the scouts are saying

Director of European Scouting, Goran Stubb:

He compensates for his lack of size with his positional play, hockey sense, mobility and skating. He plays a tough, aggressive style of hockey, plays bigger than he is and with a lot of confidence.

Brendan Ross, Dobber Hockey

Aho is a strong defender who can battle against the biggest of competitors using ideal positioning to gain an advantage. With nothing one can do about his size, scouts need to focus on the positives and Aho’s skill and leadership abilities are admirable qualities. He has represented his Swedish roots on several occasions with good success and wore a letter on his jersey.
