Sean "Diddy" Combs was arrested after assaulting a UCLA football coach on the college's campus Monday.

The news was first reported by TMZ Sports and Joey Kaufman of the Orange County Register.

Diddy is facing three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of making terrorist threats, and one count of battery by the University of California Police Department. Formal charges have yet to be filed, reports ESPN's Arash Markazi.

The university released the following statement about the incident.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m. today, Sean Combs (also known as P. Diddy) was arrested at UCLA’s Acosta Athletic Training Complex on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, which was a kettlebell. No one was seriously injured and UCPD is investigating. Combs is expected to be transported to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Inmate Reception Center later this evening.

The coach in question is UCLA's strength and conditioning coach, Sal Alosi, according to Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports. Alosi is the former strength and conditioning coach of the NFL's New York Jets who famously tripped Nolan Carroll of the Miami Dolphins while he ran out of bounds on kick coverage.

Diddy's son, Justin Combs, is a defensive back for the Bruins.

"I'm thankful that our staff showed the level of professionalism that they did in handling this situation," Bruins head coach Jim Mora said in a statement. "This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved. While UCPD continues to review this matter, we will let the legal process run its course and refrain from further comment at this time."

Feldman offered some additional details about the incident from his sources, saying Alosi kicked the younger Combs out of a workout, allegedly telling him to work with his father's personal trainer.

He went on to say Diddy arrived at Alosi's office a few hours later. The situation escalated, Diddy lunged at Alosi and tackled him. The two got into it, and were eventually separated by the mass of onlookers. At that point, Diddy grabbed a kettlebell and swung it around.

As Feldman notes, there is video of the incident as the school's weight room has a security camera, and there are a slew of witnesses.

In a statement to the Associated Press, Nathalie Moar, a representative for Diddy's company Combs Enterprises, claims that the mogul was acting in self-defense.

The various accounts of the event and charges that are being reported are wholly inaccurate. What we can say now is that any actions taken by Mr. Combs were solely defensive in nature to protect himself and his son. We are confident that once the true facts are revealed, the case will be dismissed.

Diddy was released from jail late Monday night, according to the Associated Press. Although his bail was set at $160,000 on jail records, sheriff's officials said he posted $50,000.

Justin took to social media Tuesday to thank his father for always being there for him.

I thank God for having a father that's always there for me.. Love you pops!
