Hawks duo will face trial in NYC; Sefolosha says he's unsure of health for season opener
Atlanta Hawks players Thabo Sefolosha and Pero Antic had their trial date for misdemeanor chargers set for Sept. 9 in a hearing in New York City Criminal Court on Tuesday.
Sefolosha was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, and Antic with disorderly conduct and harassment. Both were also charged with obstructing governmental administration.
Sefolosha suffered a season-ending broken right fibula during his arrest, and maintains the injury was caused by the actions of New York Police Department officers.
The perimeter defender who the Hawks didn't really miss until they faced the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals is still in a cast and using a crutch. He told ESPN's Ian Begley that he isn't sure if he will be healthy for next season's opener.
The Hawks were in New York to play the Brooklyn Nets in April when the bizarre incident occurred outside 1OAK nightclub in the Chelsea neighbourhood of Manhattan, and followed the stabbing of Indiana Pacers forward Chris Copeland, who was in town to play the Knicks.
Copeland was released from hospital two days later.
