The Houston Astros have selected slick-fielding infielder Alex Bregman out of LSU with the second overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft.

Few guys in college baseball possess the glove Bregman does.

A 2015 Golden Spikes finalist and 2013 Freshman of the Year utilizes his speed to get to anything batted his way. That speed also gave him 37 stolen bases this season - top in the SEC.

Some scouts pegged Bregman as the top pick over Vanderbilt's Dansby Swanson. Though that wasn't the case, it's likely because he won't remain at shortstop if he makes it to the majors.

Given his bat and plus glove, it's believed that he'll eventually be moved over to third or second base.

Overview

Originally selected in the 29th round by the the Boston Red Sox in 2012, Bregman opted to go to LSU and rounded into one of the top bats in this year's draft.

A unique right-handed approach, the 21-year-old is praised for his compact swing and ability to make contact, with the potential to feature average power. His strong arm and instincts project him to stay at shortstop at the major league level, though a transition to second base is also not out of the question.
