The Los Angeles Dodgers have selected righty Kyle Funkhouser with the 35th overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft.

For the Dodgers, this is a steal of a pick. Funkhouser was a concern mainly because of his signability and what he may ask for.

Either way, scouts would like to see him get a little more excited about his delivery. Extremely smooth on the bump, he dishes out an easy 96 mph fastball with plus secondary pitches.

It'll be interesting to see how he projects, though it's expected the club will keep him as a starter.

Overview

Funkhouser's fastball sits 92-96 mph and highlights an arsenal of pitches that includes a slider, curveball, and changeup.

The right-hander went undrafted out of high school due to his commitment to Louisville and emerged as the Cardinals ace in 2014 after splitting his freshman year between the bullpen and the rotation. Funkhouser set a Louisville record with 13 wins that season.

The right-hander set a Louisville record with 13 wins in 2014 while posting a 1.94 ERA and 122 strikeouts in 120 1/3 innings en route to All-American honors. He saw a decline in his strikeout numbers in 2015 and scouts want him to improve his consistency with his control.

Funkhouser said prior to the draft he hoped to be selected in the top 10 and would be disappointed if he fell outside the top 20.
