Ernie Els feels Wentworth course 'should be the Augusta of Europe'
Ernie Els has been the "world-wide touring professional" of Wentworth Club, host of the European Tour's Premier event, the BMW PGA Championship, since 2005.
He was instrumental in a course re-design in 2009, but following complaints regarding the greens at the recently concluded BMW tournament, Els admits that there were problems.
"The greens weren't up to scratch, especially the first three days of the tournament," Els said, adding that the green superintendent at Wentworth is "all-in to make (the course) what it needs to be. We feel it should be the Augusta of Europe and intend to make it that way."
Some have suggested, including pro Martin Kaymer, that the event should be held later for better course conditions but Els has stated that they will use the "newest and best machinery" possible to make the event work in May.
