The Cincinnati Reds have selected heavy-hitting catcher Tyler Stephenson with the 11th overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft.

Stephenson projects to be a second Matt Wieters given his height behind home plate. But despite being tall, he's extremely athletic and is able to field his position.

But the most appealing part about Stephenson is going to be his ability to hit at the professional level, which many believe he won't have much trouble doing.

Overview

Scouts have had the hard luck of scrapping for catchers in this year's draft, so the emergence of Stephenson is refreshing, but still leaves a question mark.

Stephenson has had an athlete's body for years, but although he maintains a 1.90 pop time from behind the plate and a plus bat, some scouts will admire his pitching ability given his 90 mph fastball and biting slider.

But if he doesn't end up on the mound, it'll be tough to keep the Georgia Tech commit behind the plate because he might outgrow it. Though given his frame, he's surprising agile with quick-twitch reflexes.

Stephenson is essentially comparable to Baltimore Orioles catcher MAtt Wieters, given his combination of strength, bat speed and loft in his swing, making him projectable for power.
