VIDEO: 7-foot-2 Indian Satnam Singh Bhamara's draft workout and interview

While it remains unlikely he'll be able to impress enough to land in the NBA next season, this year's draft may see an Indian-born player hear his name called for the very first time.

Earlier this season, Sim Bhullar became the first person of Indian descent to ever play in an NBA game. But Bhullar was born in Toronto, leaving an opportunity for 7-foot-2 teenager Satnam Singh Bhamara to become the league's first player born in India.

Bhamara has been working out at IMG Academy in preparation for the draft, having decided to turn professional after failing to qualify for a college scholarship. DraftExpress spoke with him this week and looked into the training he's been doing in hopes of convincing a team to take a second-round flier on him on June 25.

Thanks to his enormous size and potential to break a cultural barrier in the league, Singh has been on the basketball world's radar since as early as 2012 and was profiled by CNN in the same year. He averaged 9.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.2 blocks in under 20 minutes in Florida this season, working his way into the conversation as a top-100 prospect.

DraftExpress currently ranks Bhamara as the No. 69 prospect in the draft, while ESPN's Chad Ford is more pessimistic, ranking him No. 111. Should a team take Bhamara in the draft, it's likely they'd have him seek an overseas roster spot to further develop, or possibly ask him to spend next season in the D-League.
