The Chicago White Sox scooped one of the best pitchers in the nation.

Vanderbilt righty Carson Fulmer was selected as the eighth overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft, and it couldn't be a better fit for him.

Scouts project Fulmer, who owned a sparkling 1.82 ERA with one of the best teams in the NCAA, to remain as a starter throughout his professional years. Simply put, his polish is well beyond his years, though he's more than likely reached his ceiling.

Either way, the White Sox came away with who many would argue is the best pitcher in the draft.

Overview

Though his ultimate role at baseball's highest level remains uncertain, Fulmer may wield the most upside of the three Vanderbilt products selected in the early stages of the first round. Fulmer opted to attend Vanderbilt rather than sign with the Boston Red Sox after being selected in the 15th round of the 2012 draft, but emerged as one the top starters in college baseball following his freshman season spent in the bullpen.

Armed with a plus fastball and a curveball that flashes plus, as well, Fulmer projects as a future No. 2 starter, but the development of his changeup may dictate whether he ends up in the rotation or the bullpen. Fulmer's high-effort delivery may also portend a future as a reliever.
