Overview

Roope Hintz is a lanky winger with a great mind for the game who can compete at the pro level, as he demonstrated during his time with Ilves in Finland's top division. He recorded 17 points on limited ice-time in 42 games and did not look out of place against older players.

Hintz moves well for his size and his awareness in the offensive zone is enviable. He doesn't use his 6-foot-2 frame to play a physical game, preferring to beat opponents using his skating and playmaking. Despite his lack of hitting, Hintz is often referred to as an energy guy because of his hustle.

While Hintz's hard, accurate shot and scoring instincts make him a prospect with plenty of upside, he is still fairly raw in terms of puck skills. It's reasonable to expect two or three years of development before Hintz will be ready for the NHL, but the right path should end with him as a valuable part of a team's offense.

What the scouts are saying

"Hintz has developed his overall game very well over the past year. He can play center or wing and understands how to contribute from either of those positions. Can play in offensive or defensive spots in the lineup and he has a determined approach to playing and he makes contributions in various areas of the game." - Craig Button, TSN
