Tumbling ticket, hotel prices loom over Mayweather-Pacquiao megafight
The cost of watching Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao live is decreasing, but not by much.
When roughly 500 tickets were released to the public last week, they were snatched up in mere minutes. But the average sports fan knows those tickets were purchased predominantly by scalpers looking to profit off one of the more historic bouts in history.
Now the price of those tickets, and everything surrounding them, is going down the day before the fight, according to ESPN's Darren Rovell.
Rovell noted that as of Friday at 9:45 a.m., the average ticket price was $3,899, compared to 156 tickets that sold for $4,693 each a day earlier.
More than 1,000 tickets are available online, though it's unknown how many of them are on the ground at the MGM Grand.
Also tumbling are the prices of hotels in the region. On Feb. 20, it became clear that the fight would be in Las Vegas, so local hotels booked reservations at top dollar.
But as reality sets in the night before the fight, hotels are receiving a multitude of cancellations, freeing up rooms.
The MGM Grand had rooms available for $1,600, but have since dropped them to $499 for fight night. Some hotels in the area, which were previously selling rooms for $800 a night, are now trying to send them off for less than $300.
