La'el Collins' request to be removed from the draft and instead enter this summer's supplemental draft has been rejected by the NFL, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Once thought to have a chance at hearing his name called fairly early in the first round, Collins' draft status came into question this week when reports surfaced that he was being sought for questioning in the shooting death of a pregnant woman believed to be his former girlfriend.

Collins isn't thought to be a suspect in the case, and he voluntarily left Chicago on Wednesday in an effort to meet with police in Louisiana, but the unsettled legal situation makes it unclear whether a team would be willing to spend a draft pick on him this weekend.

Collins and his representation were requesting that the NFL remove him the draft so he could enter the supplemental draft later this summer after having a chance to clear his name, as first reported Thursday by Jay Glazer of FOXSports.

Though his situation is certainly unique, the NFL's CBA prevents Collins from making such a decision.
