Al-Farouq Aminu says he will decline his option with the Mavs

Al-Farouq Aminu will be a free man come summertime. 

The Mavericks forward said he will decline his $1.1-million option to test out free agency, according to the Dallas Morning News' Michael Florek. 

"I think it makes the most sense to me," said Aminu. "You just look for a great fit. This year, I think I found one. Hopefully, I can do the same." 

No one can blame Aminu for wanting to see what's out there. The 24-year-old outperformed his minimum contract all season, and posted 11.2 points and 7.2 rebounds in the playoffs, shooting 63.6 percent from beyond the arc. 

Now he's looking to get paid what he's worth. 

When asked whether money was a factor, Aminu replied: "I would hope to think so." 

Dallas general manager Donnie Nelson had stated that the team would like to re-sign Aminu. 

"We were lucky Al chose us," said Nelson. "With an eye on the history that we've had here with Rick and our development program, he certainly should opt out, and he will, as noted. We hope to be in a position to reacquire his services."
