Broncos' Cody Latimer admits struggling to grasp offense as a rookie

Denver Broncos receiver Cody Latimer came into the league with plenty of fanfare in 2014, but failed to make an impact.

Latimer concedes that the reason for his lack of playing time stemmed from failing to pick up the offense quick enough.

"It took me too long to actually catch on," Latimer told Troy E. Renck The Denver Post. "I was in the playbook, but I could have done even more. When I actually got it, it was too late. It was just way different (than college). I would know the play, then Peyton (Manning) would change it. Then I'd get to thinking too much and play slower."

The Indiana product was frustrated about not playing, but indicated his teammates pushed him to improve.

"They kept me going when I was at practice getting yelled at with people saying I didn't know what I was doing. They said repeatedly, 'Your time will come,' " Latimer said. "They said I had it in me, that I have to go out there and show the world. Part of my grind is making them look good."

Latimer figures to be more of a focal point in the offense this season. Wes Welker and Julius Thomas are gone, meaning Manning will likely turn to him as a key option in Denver's aerial attack.
