Giants trade up to select Landon Collins 33rd overall

The New York Giants moved up to the top of the second round and selected safety Landon Collins out of Alabama.

Collins, somewhat surprisingly, fell out of the first round, tempting the Giants to trade their second-, fourth- and seventh-round picks to the Tennessee Titans. New York watched Antrel Rolle and Stevie Brown leave in free agency, so Collins fills a need. 

His versatility in defending both the run and pass should be a big boost to New York's secondary.

• Shows off excellent hip rotation and can easily slide onto different wide receivers.
• Possesses better lateral movement than most safeties, good sideline-to-sideline ability.
• Delivers punishing hits in the open field.

Weaknesses

• Needs to become more sure-handed - drops a lot of potential interceptions.
• Doesn't possess great straight-line speed and may get burned by professional wide receivers.
• Spends plenty of time watching the play develop, and will get beat by quarterbacks with a quick release.
