Cubs' Maddon on possible Bryant call up Friday: 'I have not had a date given to me'

The waiting game could be over soon.

The service time clock continues to tick for Chicago Cubs super prospect Kris Bryant, who could be called up from the minors as early as Friday, according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers.

Cubs skipper Joe Maddon was asked if he'd been given a date from the team's front office regarding a potential arrival date for Bryant, but he remained coy with his answer.

"I have not had a date given to me by anybody," Maddon said.

Sending Bryant to Triple-A Iowa to start the season allows the Cubs to delay his free agency a year until after the 2021 campaign. Chicago has a day off Thursday before beginning a series with the San Diego Padres, leading to speculation the Cubs will drop their 13th pitcher back to the minors and call up the 23-year-old Bryant.

The Cubs are ailing at third base due to injuries to Mike Olt (wrist) and Tommy La Stella (rib cage), presenting the perfect opportunity for Bryant - who hit an incredible .425 with nine home runs and 15 RBIs this spring - to step in and fill the void.

"I thought he looked pretty good (in spring training). His arm played, his feet played. I look at his feet first and move up the body," Maddon added.

Sit tight, Cubs fans. The moment you've all been waiting for appears to be on the horizon.
