Bautista rips rival O'Day: 'He’s not going to blow 87 miles an hour by me'

It's been nearly two years since Baltimore Orioles pitcher Darren O'Day ignited a feud with Toronto Blue Jays superstar Jose Bautista.

The rivalry's been one-sided ever since.

Bautista continued his dominance over the side-arm-throwing reliever Sunday, blasting an eighth-inning two-run shot off O'Day three pitches after narrowly avoiding a ball to the head. It was his fourth career homer off the Orioles pitcher and first of the 2015 season.

The Blue Jays slugger skipped a few steps in celebration after crushing the 3-2 slider before sidestepping controversy with a subtle postgame jab at the soft-tossing right-hander.

"I know he's not going to blow 87 miles an hour by me," Bautista told reporters after the Blue Jays' 10-7 win, "so I figured he was probably going to try to throw more off-speed pitches after moving my feet a little bit with that fastball."

Bautista, who entered the game with a monster .286/.474/.929 line and three homers in 14 at-bats against the Orioles reliever, said he's never spoken to O'Day and has no plans to, either.

"I think this is the only guy that this happens with in the whole league, at least for me," Bautista said. "I don't have any history with anybody."

O'Day played the role of instigator back in June 2013 when he danced off the mound after striking out Bautista to escape a late-inning jam in a tie game. The next day Bautista added further fuel to the fire by chirping O'Day as he rounded third base following a home run.

"The only reason why I have a history with this guy is because on one particular (night), he struck me out and he started yapping at me," he said. "After that it's been a back-and-forth of emotional situations."
