The New Orleans Saints have selected quarterback Garrett Grayson out of Colorado State in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Grayson instantly becomes the Saints quarterback in waiting, with 36-year-old Drew Brees only under contract for two more seasons. Speculation has been rampant the Saints will be looking to move on from Brees in the near future and it appears they're putting together a plan of succession in Grayson.
Grayson is the highest quarterback selection the Saints have made since taking Archie Manning second overall in 1971.

Strengths
- Excellent deep ball thrower. Can heave it downfield without sacrificing accuracy and puts it in a place where only the receiver can catch it.
- Uses play action well to freeze defenders in coverage, allowing receivers to gain separation.
- Good pocket awareness. Uses subtle footwork to avoid pressure and buy himself time.
- Steps up in the pocket consistently and doesn't panic in the face of pressure.
Weaknesses
- Needs to put more zip on throws for shorter and intermediate routes. Floats the ball too often, putting receivers in harm's way.
- Slow release of the ball. Could be vulnerable to more interceptions in the pros as defensive backs will be able to telegraph his throws quicker.
- Not a good runner. Won't pick up much yardage on the ground and can't salvage a broken play with his legs.
