Strengths
- Ideal size and strength for a wide receiver. Will be able to hold up over NFL season. Body control and leaping are assets.
- Speed. With an unconfirmed 40-yard-dash time somewhere between 4.15 and 4.27, Perriman may be the fastest player in the draft. It's hard to know how fast he really is, but his 40 times confirm he's not just fast on film.
- Consistently gets separation even if his routes aren't crisp. Major threat to take the top off a defense. Has to be respected by safeties over the top.
Weaknesses
- Rounds off a lot of his routes because his speed hasn't been challenged by collegiate corners.
- Hands are a question mark. Dropped eight passes in 2014, according to College Football Focus. Makes big catches, but drops too many routine balls
- Has to improve upon all fundamentals and will need the right coaching situation to develop into more than just a deep threat.
NFL player comparison: Darrius Heyward-Bey
Almost identical in size and speed to Heyward-Bey, Perriman is a raw talent who needs to run cleaner routes and catch the ball more consistently. Sound familiar, Raiders fans? If he can develop behind a veteran or two in a good offense, Perriman will have more success at the NFL level than DHB has had to date.
Ideal fit: Baltimore Ravens
Perriman needs to become a more polished route runner, but while he's figuring it out he could be catching deep balls from Joe Flacco. He might be the ideal replacement for deep threat Torrey Smith, who went to San Francisco, and learning from Steve Smith would benefit the UCF product.
