Strengths

  • Cooper has the speed to gain separation from defensive backs, and sells routes well. Often gets defenders to lean the wrong way before coming out of his break.
  • Shows a good ability to make plays in traffic and is stronger than he looks. Can break tackles if the opposition doesn't wrap up.
  • Excellent with the ball in his hands. Can turn short plays into big ones by using his vision.
  • Can be used all over the field. Looks comfortable out wide and in the slot.

Weaknesses

  • Needs to polish up his route running at the next level. Can become complacent at times while running intermediate patterns, and relies too much on his athleticism.
  • Could improve his run blocking and add some bulk. Won't easily be able to out-muscle defensive backs in the pros.
  • Needs to improve his concentration, as drops were a problem throughout his time at Alabama.

NFL player comparison: Jeremy Maclin

Maclin is slightly smaller than Cooper, but both show a determination to pick up yards after the catch and find the end zone once the ball is in their hands. Maclin, like Cooper, is a deep threat and has the speed to turn a short pickup into a huge gain.

Ideal fit: Cleveland Browns

The Browns are desperate for a pass catcher with Josh Gordon once again suspended and Jordan Cameron gone to Miami. Picking 12th, Cleveland didn't figure to have a shot at Cooper with Minnesota and St. Louis, two receiver-needy teams, picking right before it. However, the Rams re-signed Kenny Britt and the Vikings traded for Mike Wallace, giving the Browns a glimmer of hope Cooper may fall into their lap.

Draft Projection: Round 1 (5-15)
