Houston head coach Tom Herman chains locker room doors shut

Houston head coach Tom Herman is the new kid on the block, but don't tell him that.

The former Ohio State offensive coordinator felt as though some of his players took advantage of the fact that he hadn't earned his stripes. To get their attention, he locked chains around the locker room doors, preventing players from getting in.

Herman scattered three early-morning practices throughout the week. They all began at 4:45 a.m., and the weather was brutal. His reasoning was simple, according to the Houston Chronicle's Joseph Duarte.

"This morning's workout was actually the culmination of three days of our team earning their way back into the locker room,” Herman said. "We had a few guys that might have decided, for whatever reason, to take advantage of the transition of coaching and try to toe the line a little bit in some areas, whether it be with workouts or classes. We wanted to see who really wanted to be part of the team.

"We didn't have anybody miss. Everybody showed up."
