NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino said Thursday the league will review the controversial catch rule that cost Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant a completion during the NFC divisional round.

Blandino and two senior officials held a press conference Thursday to address many of the on-field issues that plagued the 2014 NFL season.

Among the other topics discussed were a proposal by the Detroit Lions to expand instant replay, improvements in the security and management of game balls, and a reduction in field goal post width by two feet.

The league is attempting to improve a rule book that's perceived as arbitrary and inconsistently enforced on the field. The optics are probably more important, and all real changes will have to come with recommendations from the competition committee.
