Cristiano Ronaldo gets 2-match ban for red card, eligible to return vs. Atletico
Cristiano Ronaldo can count himself lucky.
The Real Madrid superstar received only a two-match ban for the incident that led to his red card against Cordoba this past weekend, meaning he will not miss the team's upcoming derby against Atletico Madrid.
The 29-year-old was shown a straight red for simultaneously punching and kicking Cordoba defender Edimar in the second half of Los Blancos' 2-1 win on Saturday.
That incident came after he escaped any punishment for attempting to punch another opponent earlier in the contest.
The two-match ban means the Portuguese attacker will miss the upcoming visits of Real Sociedad and Sevilla to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Crucially, however, by avoiding a three-match suspension, Ronaldo will be eligible for his team's trip to city rivals (and defending La Liga champions) Atletico Madrid on Feb. 7.
