Pistons' win streak hits 6 after Jennings' game-winner

It's a brave new world for the Detroit Pistons

After defeating the San Antonio Spurs 105-104 on the road Tuesday night, the Pistons are now winners of six straight since waiving Josh Smith.

The wild finish unfolded as follows: the Spurs held a three-point edge with eight seconds left in the game. However, they made a bold decision to intentionally foul Pistons shooting guard Jodie Meeks. And the sharpshooting Meeks, who had connected on 92.3 percent of his free throws coming into Tuesday's game, hit both to cut the Spurs' lead to one.

The swap was clearly a conscious decision by the Spurs, who looked to trade two points for possession. However, on the Spurs' ensuing possession, Patty Mills mishandled an inbounds pass, thus allowing Brandon Jennings to provide a heroic finish.

Brandon Jennings for the WIN and the streak continues!!!

The late turnover capped off a horrific fourth quarter for the Spurs, who missed six free throws in the final frame to land themselves in a precarious position. Mills, who had not missed a single free throw coming into the game, split a pair late in the fourth to set the stage for his fatal blunder.

The game opened with a strong push from the Spurs, as they overwhelmed the Pistons' sloppy pick-and-roll defense en route to an early 37-20 advantage. The Spurs repeatedly found Jeff Ayres and Tim Duncan open while rolling to the basket. The two finished with nine and 10 points apiece in the opening frame.

However, the Pistons managed to close the gap by tightening their defensive rotations. Over the final three quarters, the Pistons limited the Spurs to 67 points on a paltry 42.3 percent shooting.

The Pistons' frontline of Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe came up huge on both ends of the floor. Drummond's size and quickness allowed him to repeatedly thwart pick-and-rolls. He recorded 20 points and 17 rebounds, while Monroe added 17 points and 11 rebounds.

The Spurs, meanwhile, had seven scorers reach double digits.

Also of note was Tony Parker's return from a hamstring injury Tuesday. He played just under 13 minutes in the first half and did not appear in the second.
