Athletics trade Derek Norris to Padres
The Oakland Athletics have traded catcher Derek Norris to the San Diego Padres, the teams announced Thursday.
Right handers Jesse Hahn and R.J. Alvarez will be heading back the other way to Oakland.
The Athletics are also including pitcher Seth Streich and an international signing slot in the deal.
Norris should provide some pop to a lineup that failed to produce power last season, and form a solid tandem with newly-acquired backstop Ryan Hanigan.
The 25-year-old hit a respectable .270 with 10 home runs and 55 RBIs for the Athletics and won't become a free agent until 2019.
Hahn, 25, went 7-4 with a 3.07 ERA in 12 starts for the Friars, while Alvarez, 23, posted a 0.33 ERA in 21 Double-A appearances.
Streich, a 23-year-old righty, pitched to a 9-6 record with a 3.16 ERA in 22 starts for Advanced-A Stockton of the California league.
A's general manager Billy Beane has been stockpiling young pitching in deals this winter, suggesting a big move could be on the horizon.
Can't imagine the A's will keep all this pitching. Have to think they're prepping for a bigger move, like an Upton or Tulowitzki.
