Report: Pistons asking for 1st-round pick in potential Monroe deal

It's no great secret that power forward Greg Monroe wants out of Detroit, but securing his departure won't be easy.

According to a report from Sean Deveney of the Sporting News, many executives around the league believe Monroe is unhappy with the Detroit Pistons - but in order to part with their young big, the Pistons want a first-round pick in return.

A separate report from USA Today's Jeff Zillgitt reports that Monroe is interested in keeping his Bird Rights, and therefore won't agree to a trade.

Monroe signed a one-year qualifying offer worth $5.5 million this summer, giving him the right to veto any trade. The gambit, however, is that if he does agree to a trade, Monroe would lose his Bird Rights, which would make re-signing Monroe a tall task for teams without cap space.

Monroe is averaging 15 points and 9.2 rebounds for a wayward Pistons squad that currently sits at 5-19.
