Report: Sabres GM Murray prepared to be patient on the trade market
There are several Buffalo Sabres players who might be helpful to teams with designs on competing for the postseason - or even the Stanley Cup - this spring.
The Boston Bruins, for example, are desperate for a top-six winger and have been linked in trade rumors to right wing Chris Stewart - who will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Other Sabres veterans like Drew Stafford, Torrey Mitchell, Andrej Meszaros, Jhonas Enroth and Michal Neuvirth could be effective supporting players in the right situation, and are signed to contracts that will expire this summer.
The Sabres also control some assets that qualify as larger ticket items. Players like Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers, who has been talked about in connection with the Detroit Red Wings ad nauseam, could also be available based on the trade chatter that has been reported publicly in recent months.
Though, don't hold your breath waiting for the Sabres to make a move and shake things up in the near future. They have time to burn, and general manager Tim Murray is reportedly happy to wait until prices rise closer to the NHL's March 3rd trade deadline.
"Murray says he's taking calls, but he's not making any," Sportsnet's Damien Cox reported Saturday. "He wants to wait until the ante goes up."
The Sabres can afford to wait, and afford to lose. The question is: can their potential trade partners?
