Chase Headley required just a handful of at-bats to endear himself to the New York Yankees, delivering a game-winning single in the bottom of the 14th inning of Tuesday's game against the Texas Rangers just hours after being acquired from the San Diego Padres.

Headley, who arrived at Yankee Stadium after the game had started, entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning and went hitless in three at-bats before knocking a walkoff single to lift the Yankees to a 2-1 victory.

"He's had a whirlwind of a day," Yankees manager Joe Girardi told MLB.com's Bryan Hoch. "He got traded, had to pack his stuff, get here and he gets a huge hit."

Headley was understandably flustered by Tuesday's events, but was glad to bookend his day with a memorable contribution.

"A little chaotic; awesome, though," Headley said. "Obviously, you have mixed emotions when you've been at a place for as long as I've been in San Diego. But I couldn't be happier to be a Yankee. It's unbelievable. Can't even believe I'm saying that. A long day, but a great way to finish."
