Report: Islanders unable to reach agreement with Boyle, will shop his rights

Bob Stanton-USA TODAY Sports

Dan Boyle will not be settling with the Islanders, and New York general manager Garth Snow is set to assess the market for the defenseman's rights.

Acquiring Boyle's rights was a calculated gamble for Snow and the Islanders, who managed to sign goaltender Jaroslav Halak to a long-term deal using similar tactics. Should Boyle indeed not sign with the Islanders, New York will send the San Jose Sharks a fifth-round pick in 2015.

Unfortunately for them, the team is not a fit in Boyle's eyes, and his rights will likely be traded prior to the NHL Draft on June 27.
