Saltalamacchia exited the game in the ninth inning and was replaced by Jeff Mathis behind the plate. Manager Mike Redmond wasn't going to push his No. 1 catcher with the tight 12:40 p.m. ET matinee scheduled for Thursday after a night game.
The team did not reveal the results of the X-ray and there was no timetable given for his return.
