Andersen makes 34 saves as Ducks escape Game 2 with series lead

Kelvin Kuo / USA Today

Frederik Andersen made 14 of his 34 saves in the third period to help the Anaheim Ducks hang on for a 3-2 victory in Game 2 on Friday, leaving Honda Center with a 2-0 series lead over the Dallas Stars.

Ryan Getzlaf - playing a day after attending the birth of his third child and wearing a partial face shield after taking a puck to the jaw in Game 1 - had a goal and an assist, while Corey Perry snapped a 10-game playoff goal drought in the second period.

Perry also speared Stars forward Jamie Benn early in the contest and could face supplemental discipline for his actions.

The game was evenly played through 40 minutes, but Dallas came out strong to start the third period and spent the majority of the final minutes in Anaheim's zone. The final shot count was a lopsided 36-19 in favor of the Stars.

Ducks forward Andrew Cogliano scored the eventual game-winner after some fantastic forechecking while shorthanded five minutes into the third:

Ryan Garbutt pulled Dallas back within a goal around five minutes later, but Andersen withstood a final barrage to end the contest in regulation.

The Ducks and the Stars will continue their first-round series with Game 3 at Dallas on Monday.
