VIDEO: Tracy McGrady works out with Sugar Land Skeeters, plus mechanical report

There's finally video evidence.

You've heard the story already - Tracy McGrady is going to try his hand at Independent League baseball. Now, we can get a good look at what McGrady is bringing to the mound for the Sugar Land Skeeters:

So what are we seeing here?

Obviously, McGrady has a huge mound presence at 6-foot-8, and his apparently five-foot-long shorts are equally intimidating. His delivery, however, is quite slow. His front leg has an awful lot of bend and he's pretty far from his body, which screams pitch-tipping.

We're not experts, but BEST Performance, a biomechanical sports evaluation company, are, and here's what they had to say via Twitter:

Tough for detailed analysis from Vine video clips, but here we go:

Summary - needs work to max angular momentum.

Details: more hip thrust or forward momentum towards plate on leg lift; typical of improper hip mobility, opening of left leg from foot rather than hips; At front foot down position, not horrible, just no separation; But upper arm not bad; Problem with that foot down position is pitching side forearm shold (sic) be more vertical; glove side arm not helping; Biggest issue is he block rotates his torso and hips, no separation at all; has very early forearm extension during internal rotation of the humerus; Incomplete angular momentum transfer from hips through torso because no block on left leg; Initial front foot down is not horrible but needs single leg stability to resist going further into flexion.

Majority of work should be spent on hip mobility and single leg stability; also hip/torso separation. IF he were to ever get that corrected, then would need some pitching side arm connectivity work as well.

That's not exactly a ringing endorsement but hey, McGrady is just getting going. There's plenty of time to work things out. Or not, who cares? We're still planning a road trip to Sugar Land.
