Payton: Peterson's 'role will be very clear and defined'

Sean Payton has a plan for Adrian Peterson.

While some have questioned how the New Orleans Saints will balance the load between power runners Peterson and Mark Ingram, Payton says he is comfortable with how to handle the two backs.

"I think the role will be very clear and defined," Payton said Tuesday of Peterson, according to Josh Katzenstein of NOLA.com. "It's a tough, long 16-week season. I think that he's someone that certainly will be able to complement Mark.

"Those guys are different in some ways, and yet we feel like we've added another quality player."

Both Ingram and Peterson are primarily first- and second-down backs, but Payton is excited to add a generational talent - even if he's past his prime.

"It goes without saying, (Peterson is) a guy that eventually is going to be in the Hall of Fame," said Payton. "But I think - we think - that he's got more years in his career, so we're excited for that to happen."
