Report: Raiders, Seahawks expected to work out Lynch trade

Momentum continues to mount for Marshawn Lynch potentially making a return to the NFL in silver and black.

The Oakland Raiders are expected to acquire the retired running back from the Seattle Seahawks in a trade, contingent on a re-worked contract, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports, citing sources.

Seattle previously gave the Raiders permission to speak with the five-time Pro Bowler, which led to a meeting between Lynch and his hometown team last week.

Trade talks can begin if and when Lynch's representation comes to terms on a new deal with Oakland, Rapoport adds.

The two sides are working on a short-term deal that would be heavy with incentives, a source told ESPN's Ed Werder.

As for the compensation, the Seahawks likely won't be expecting much in return. Given that they would have had to release him if he was reinstated to their roster, a conditional pick or swap of late-rounders would be a reasonable place to start.

Lynch, one of the most dominant backs of his generation, would fill a glaring backfield need for an otherwise potent Raiders offense.

Expectations would have to be tempered, as Lynch is 30 years old and was hampered by injuries in the 2015 season that preceded his retirement. But there should still be plenty of upside in having him slide in as an early-down complement to second-year backs Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington.

Lynch's last season of high-end production came in 2014, when he tallied 1,306 rushing yards, 367 receiving yards, and 17 total touchdowns across 16 games.
