Garrett: I'd punish Browns for 'next 10-12 years' if not picked No. 1

Mock drafts are flooding the internet on a daily basis, and the vast majority of them have the Cleveland Browns taking Myles Garrett at the No. 1 spot.

And why wouldn't they?

The star Texas A&M pass-rusher is widely considered the best player in this draft, and a borderline generational talent at one of the most important positions on the field.

Garrett explained why the Browns shouldn't hesitate to lock in the pick to ESPN's Sam Alipour.

"Because I'll be a difference-maker from Day 1," Garrett said. "And I'm not gonna be in any trouble. I'm just gonna make plays and bring a good atmosphere to your organization. And I'm gonna start winning and winning now. And because if you don't draft me No. 1, I will punish your team for the next 10 to 12 years. I'll knock your QB out of the game every time we play you, and I'll have to kick the hell out of No. 1, whoever it is."

Desperately in need of a franchise player under center, going with a quarterback is presumably also on the table for Cleveland.

Given the patience with which the team appears set on carrying out their rebuild, though, passing on Garrett to reach on such a player is a tough sell. A second first-round selection, coming 11 picks later at No. 12 overall, could still give the Browns the chance to come away with one of this year's top quarterbacks.

Garrett was incredibly productive across three seasons at College Station, racking up 31 sacks and 47 tackles for loss in 34 games.

If selected No. 1 overall, he'd slide in alongside 2015 first-round pick Danny Shelton and 2016 second-round pick Emmanuel Ogbah to provide the Browns with a young foundation up front.
