Seahawks GM makes it clear Sherman is available in trade

If there was any lingering doubt about whether Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman is truly on the trade block, general manager John Schneider erased it Wednesday.

On the topic of Sherman, Schneider told 710 ESPN Seattle's "Brock and Salk" that recent reports about Sherman's status are true.

"What you've seen lately in the news is real. That's on both sides," Schneider said, according to Brady Henderson of 710 ESPN.

It's the second part of Schneider's comments that is particularly interesting, as it seems to hint that Sherman could want out of Seattle as much or more than the team wants him gone.

When reports of a possible trade first broke, Sherman said he laughed it off. He later changed his tune a little, saying he wants to stay in Seattle but would understand a trade.

Though head coach Pete Carroll told reporters he doesn't envision a trade happening, Schneider's comments make it clear a trade is possible if not likely.

It's rare to see a GM make such a public admission, as it seemingly hurts the Seahawks' leverage. Perhaps Schneider believes that by being honest about the situation he could drum up business from teams that might have otherwise believed Sherman to be unattainable.
