Report: Jerry Jones allowing teams to contact Romo, organize visits

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has notified the rest of the league that he will permit teams to contact Tony Romo to schedule a workout, physical, or visit, a source told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

Any teams looking to speak with Romo will be limited to conversations concerning his 2017-19 contract, adds Garafolo, meaning they can negotiate a possible restructure of his current deal which will help facilitate a trade.

Romo has cap hits of $24.7 million in 2017, $25.2 million in 2018, and $23.7 million in 2019 - unworkable numbers for the Houston Texans and the Denver Broncos, the two teams who have been most consistently linked with him.

Romo reportedly believes his options for 2017 are to play for the Texans or retire.

The Cowboys initially appeared set on releasing Romo around the start of free agency, but quickly backtracked when it became clear they could potentially recoup some value for the veteran quarterback.

At nearly 37 years old and with a significant injury history, Romo could be facing a weak market, especially with most teams set at the position following free agency.
