Missouri signee Porter Jr. named McDonald's All-Star MVP

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

As the top-ranked prospect in the country for the class of 2017, Michael Porter Jr. entered Wednesday's McDonald's High School All-American game with high expectations, and the Missouri signee met all of those with ease.

The 6-foot-10, 212-pounder took home the MVP award for the game, finishing the contest with 17 points and eight rebounds on 6-of-13 shooting from the field. Porter led the West team in scoring, as they held on for a 109-107 victory in the annual game.

Porter's recruitment has been a national topic in recent weeks, as the standout forward asked for his release from Washington following the firing of Lorenzo Romar as head coach. Porter's father, who was an assistant under Romar, was also let go and ended up joining new Missouri coach Cuonzo Martin's staff as an assistant.

That paved the way for the Nathan Hale High School star to join his father at the SEC program.

The Tigers were an atrocious 8-24 last season, so there's alot of work to be done in Columbia to make them an NCAA tournament team next season in what will likely be Porter's lone collegiate campaign.

His addition to the Tigers could help Martin land one of the 10 remaining unsigned recruits on the ESPN 100.
