Rangers clinch 7th straight postseason berth in OT loss
John Hefti-USA TODAY Sports
The New York Rangers are in.
The Blueshirts clinched their seventh straight playoff berth late Tuesday night, earning a point against the San Jose Sharks in a back-and-forth game the Rangers eventually lost 5-4 in overtime.
New York was the fourth team to clinch Tuesday, joining the Edmonton Oilers, Anaheim Ducks, and Sharks. The Ducks and Sharks punched their tickets once the Oilers beat the Los Angeles Kings.
With Alain Vigneault behind the bench, the Rangers have never missed the playoffs in four seasons.
New York needs one more point to clinch the first wild-card position in the Eastern Conference.
