Chargers GM not ruling out drafting a QB: 'Never say never'

Ask any NFL executive and they'll tell you teams must have a succession plan in place at the quarterback position.

The Los Angeles Chargers appear to be a team without a quarterback-of-the-future on their roster. The team currently employs 13-year veteran Philip Rivers and backups Kellen Clemens and Mike Bercovici at the position. Clemens has been in the league 11 seasons and while Bercovici was a rookie in 2016, he isn't regarded as the long-term answer.

Pressed on whether he would address the future at the position in this year's draft, Chargers general manager Tom Telesco allowed that there may be a possibility.

"Even though we have our franchise quarterback, we always have to be looking toward the future. It's work we've done every year. We'll do work on all the quarterbacks. You never say never. You just never know in this business," Telesco said Thursday on NFL Network, according to NFL.com's Conor Orr.

"You have to be prepared in this business, whether you're picking at No. 7 or if we trade back, it's just hard to tell right now. We will scout every position like we don't have someone there, and we'll make determinations draft day on what we end up doing."

Telesco finished by stating that the Chargers remain Rivers' team.
