Report: Peterson, Charles not generating much interest from teams

The two superstar veteran running backs released last week might have to wait a while before finding their next team.

Adrian Peterson, who will be allowed to hit free agency after the Minnesota Vikings announced they will decline his 2017 option, isn't allowed to sign with a new team yet. But that doesn't mean there aren't wink-and-nod conversations happening about him as the NFL world gathers at the scouting combine.

And, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, those conversations have not resulted in the expectation that Peterson will get a hefty contract from his next team.

Florio even speculates that Peterson may have to wait for another running back to get injured before signing.

Jamaal Charles, on the other hand, is a free agent right now following his release by the Kansas City Chiefs, and is eligible to sign with a team immediately. But Charles isn't generating much interest from teams either, according to Florio.

Running back salaries have been pushed down in recent years by teams preferring to go young and cheap at the position.

With a strong incoming class of rookie running backs, this year's veteran crop of free agents might find the offers for their services to be far lower than they expected or hoped.
