Report: Nets no longer seeking multiple 1st-rounders in Lopez talks
Whether it's due to the recent trade that saw superstar big man DeMarcus Cousins traded for a modest package or not, the Brooklyn Nets appear to be softening their stance on the asking price of their own star center.
According to ESPN's Marc Stein, former All-Star Brook Lopez could now be had for a combination of a first- and second-round pick, as opposed to the previous price of multiple first-rounders.
It's not clear what kind of established talent a team interested in Lopez might also have to part with.
Lopez's rebounding has never been strong for a seven-footer, and his plodding repertoire may not seem tailor-made for 2017, but the 28-year-old has evolved into a more modern offensive big. After hoisting up a grand total of 31 3-pointers over his first eight years as a pro, Lopez is shooting a respectable 34.4 percent on 5.1 3-point attempts per game this season.
That kind of floor-stretching ability, coupled with Lopez's impressive footwork and interior arsenal, make him one of the most complete offensive big men in the Association, evidenced by his career-high 20.8 points in less than 30 minutes per game.
Lopez has one year - worth $22.6 million - remaining on his contract after this season.
Despite owning the league's worst record (9-47), the Nets don't control their own draft pick until 2019.
