Texas governor mocks NFL in response to 'bathroom bill' warning

Troy Taormin / USA TODAY Sports

Just days after holding Super Bowl LI in Houston, the NFL issued a warning that Texas could miss out on any future bids if the state enacts its "bathroom proposal" bill.

A statement from league spokesman Brian McCarthy on Friday indicated that decisions about events could be impacted by any law that "is discriminatory or inconsistent with our values."

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott tweeted a response:

The Texas bill, which targets transgender people, proposes that the use of public bathrooms be required to correspond with the sex listed on the user's birth certificate.

A similar law put into effect in North Carolina led to the NCAA removing a total of seven championship events from the state last year, and the NBA also moved its upcoming 2017 All-Star Game from Charlotte to New Orleans in response.
