Poirier wins majority decision in dog fight with Miller

Dustin Poirier was nearly a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest on Saturday.

Surviving some brutal leg kicks from Jim Miller, "The Diamond" came out on top via majority decision after three rounds of slinging leather in the lightweight opener of UFC 208.

Poirier's power punching carried him to his fifth win six fights since dropping down to lightweight in April 2015. With the impressive performance, Poirier bounces back from a first-round knockout loss to Michael Johnson in his last appearance.

The win was as hard-fought as they come as Poirier could hardly stand after absorbing a number of leg kicks from Miller.

According to multiple reports, Poirier was taken to the hospital after the fight.

Regardless of any injuries Poirier may have suffered, the 28-year-old did more than enough to win over two of the three judges scoring the match. He was the aggressor for the majority of the bout, drawing Miller into a firefight that was usually in Poirier's favor.

Poirier cranked up the activity in Round 2, loading up on his punches to badly bruise up Miller's face.

On the ground, Miller attacked with submissions in reaction to Poirier tripping him down. He worked for a rear-naked choke in Round 1 and a kimura in Round 3, but Poirier was able to shut down both attempts. With Poirier having the advantage on the feet, it left Miller with few avenues to victory.

The loss halts a three-fight winning streak for Miller, who tied Gleison Tibau for the most appearances in lightweight history at 26. He is 3-3 in his last six bouts.
