Brian Wilson attempting comeback as knuckleballer

One of baseball's most charismatic and distinctive personalities is attempting to make a comeback as a knuckleballer.

Three-time All-Star reliever Brian Wilson, who last pitched in 2014 for the Los Angeles Dodgers with an average velocity of 93.1 mph on his fastball, threw a 30-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday - most of them knuckleballs.

"That right there was an MVP-Cy Young knuckleball. You can write that down, too. No joke," Wilson said, according to Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports.

"I can already see myself out there. Throwing up some waffles."

Throughout his seven-year career with the San Francisco Giants, Wilson established himself as one of the best closers in all of baseball with a personality that was difficult to forget. He combined for 171 saves and won a World Series with the Giants in 2010.

The 34-year-old - who's undergone two Tommy John surgeries - confirmed he's pitched for two teams and hopes his new pitch will help his road back to the highest level.

"It was kinda good to lay back and figure out what I wanted," Wilson said. “It feels like a new leaf."

"I always said that once my career was over I was coming back as a knuckleballer. I’m good with it. Man, I get to play a game. It’s going to be pretty fun."
