Lady Gaga impresses with acrobatic, bedazzled halftime show

Matthew Emmons / USA TODAY Sports

There were no overt political statements to be found in Lady Gaga's halftime show at Super Bowl LI, but the performance certainly wasn't light on moments that set social media ablaze.

As had been rumored, Gaga started the show atop Houston's NRG Stadium, where she sang lines from "God Bless America" and "This Land is Your Land" under a sky filled with hundreds of lit-up drones.

Gaga, who promised a message of inclusion and love, then recited the second half of the Pledge of Allegiance before descending into the stadium on wires, landing on a tower of speakers to sing "Poker Face."

Gaga started the performance in a silver sequined outfit with a superhero-esque mask on her face, later changing into a white getup that featured a pair of shoulder pads. How apropos.

Highlights of the performance included "Born This Way," "Telephone" (with no guest appearance by Beyonce), and "Bad Romance."

As her moment in the international spotlight drew to a close, Gaga climbed a set of bleachers, threw down her microphone and then leaped off, catching a football on her way down.

Not a bad ending to a memorable halftime spectacle.
